CEI Mini-Teaching Retreat Generates Ideas

The CEI Mini-Teaching Retreat held on May 19 used a design charette technique to develop ideas regarding CEI's role in increasing the impact of many teaching innovations that individuals are doing in CCI.  

Action items developed included:

Administrative actions

  • Measures of effectiveness: retention, graduation, market competitiveness
  • Public-available online CCI teaching materials
  • Repository of stories and cases describing our innovations: peer grading, peer instruction, active learning, lightweight teams, online learning

 

Education Innovations actions:

  • Partial and incremental online learning modules, and invite others to adopt them
  • Incremental active learning methods
  • Gateway or bootcamp programming course
  • Curriculum Redesign: Innovative and collaborative curricula that is flexible for our student population
  • Course Redesign: Create a independent study for a student to redesign a course they have already taken
  • MOOC participation: cross institution and UNCC only
